Better known in Lawspitch as the "hograven", is flightless, omnivorous strigomimoid native to the forests and wetlands of T'oxaśn and Júent. While the bulk of its diet is made up of berries, seeds, cone-fruits, and browse (it has a special appetite for the cycads of the rainforests of Svipur), it is an extremely opportunistic feeder and will gorge itself on carrion, faeces, small birds/mammals/reptiles/cairs and invertebrates. They have even been observed fishing.
These birds are solitary, and breed in late winter, laying their eggs by early spring, and raising their chicks in the spring and summer. The average lifespan is about 10 years, and when not in the wetlands, where there are more terrestrial predators on the prowl, they prefer forests with good cover, the highest population density occurring in temperate rainforests.
They stand about 2 ft. at the shoulder.
